Ceremony Celebrating the Successful Completion of the July 2008 Vacation English Courses at the American Language Center

On Saturday July 26, 2008, the American Language Center held a ceremony marking the end of the English language summer course of July 2008. Each year, the American Language Center organizes courses in July and August to allow middle and high school students the opportunity to improve their English. This year, July courses ran from June 30 to July 25. During the four weeks, the students had 80 hours of instruction, which included two hours of English and two hours of camp activities (music, word games, etc.) a day. Access Microscholarship Program

As part of the U.S. Embassy’s Access Microscholarship Program, which involves English language instruction in three schools in Ouagadougou, the American Language Center held a graduation ceremony on Saturday July 19, 2008 to mark the end of the two-year program.  More than 100 students educated by this program and their family and friends attended the ceremony. APAC (Association Des Professionnelles Africaines de la Communication) ‘Workshop on Female Circumcision’

On Wednesday June 25th 2008, the Association of Professional Women Communicators organized an all day workshop to discuss Female Genital Mutilation at the American Cultural Center.  Every year, the Cultural Center has opened its doors to APAC for workshops aimed at sensitizing the public on issues pertaining to women’s rights and their role in a democratic society.  This year’s topic aimed to break taboos surrounding female circumcision, a traditional cultural practice that is now outlawed in Burkina Faso...
